Alex Ovechkin out on the ice during his skate at KCI.

Poor Ovi… all alone… :(
So, this was like, an hour before my game? Maybe a bit more. I had just gotten there to pick up my goalie skates and checked out the ice my game was to be on to find Ovi just skatin’ about. Pretty awesome.

“The fact is that “y’all” is pretty useful, as formal English doesn’t have a distinctly plural version of “you.” There is no “yous” (except in places like New York city and New Jersey, sometimes in the form of “youse guys”). This suggests that the referent is usually clear enough in context. But the existence of “y’all,” the related “you-all” and “all-y’all,” and other workarounds like “you guys” and “you lot” show that there is, in fact, room in the market for new second-person plural pronouns. Visitors to Texas typically realize the value of “y’all” within 48 hours.” —

See? Even The Economist is onboard with y’all. The rest of y’all just wish you were from the South.

Lots of updates: Promising things, setbacks, and lots of excitement.

So it’s been a bit since I’ve posted. A lot has happened in terms of this not-drinking deal-y. I’m not really sure where to being.

I’ve drank more than just a few once since saying I was going to stop. It wasn’t a complete disaster. Last night I curled up with good beer, a blanket and the remaining episodes of Doctor Who for me to catch up on, and I had 5, got pleasantly drunk and curled up and slept like a baby. I didn’t drink until I got out of control, didn’t do anything shitty. Just got a little warm and fuzzy and giggled at a television and British people.

So, I’ve still not broken what I set out to do. I’m in damn good control over when I drink and how much I drink, which is pretty much what I set out to do. Last night was out of character from how I’ve been since I started. I’m also very aware that this is a short time period that I’m talking about, but it’s pretty significantly long compared to how I used to drink.

The few other instances I’ve drank have been in social settings where I’ve had one beer and then called it a night. Two in some instances. I went to the Redskins game last Sunday, a place I used to get blitzingly drunk and scream like a maniac. I had one beer. I still screamed like a maniac. It was fun as shit, and I’m really glad I spend a sporting event sober. It’s a pretty new thing for me.

In the trying new things personally, that’s crawling a bit, but it’s going. The whole self-confidence thing is coming around a bit. That’s pretty exciting. I asked out a waitress! A cute waitress! And ran into her tonight and wasn’t a complete disaster. I’ve talked to women sanely. That’s pretty cool, too. This should be a fun new little ride type thing. Thanks for stickin’ around.

This is Rush back in May when I first got him. He was three months old and couldn’t manage to keep his ears up. He’s such a cute little puppy :)

And James suddenly has a moment.

And I think I know what bothers me the most here. I’m not drunk, so I’ve not completely betrayed my goal, but why I drank really does bother me.

It was entirely to become a different person. Not literally, I’d not lie about who I am, but to become confident enough to dance. To talk to strangers. To talk to people I know earnestly.

This is a big part of the whole “working on things I don’t like about myself” thing, and I really don’t like that I reverted to drinking as an aid so quickly.
